I hit rock bottom on Saturday night.
I think that was the bottom of the creative wave because all day Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were total blancos. Nothing but wind rushing around inside the cranium. Which is a good thing because I could finally sit down, relax and finish reading Shriek, An Afterword.
I loved reading this book. It's one of those books where you wish the story would just go on and on and on and on.Of course, there was no denying the thinning of pages and the fact that the back page complete with the author's picture and a list of acknowledgements was coming up. As the pages grew thinner, I kept hoping there would be a postscript or more or something else (in case you want to know, I'm the kind of person who used to stand up and go around to check on the other side of the computer if there wasn't some tiny person typing back answers at me. That was back in the days when I was still learning about the internet. I am also the type of person who imagines that wishing a book or a movie won't end will somehow have some sort of magical effect and increase the number of pages in a book. Okay, so I believe in wishes and in magic and I shall probably be checking for gray caps whenever I pass a manhole.)
Good news though...I can still find out if there's more coming by reading Jeff VanderMeer's website. No, I will not be stalking the author. I just want to find out when the next Ambergris novel is coming out.
